MISSION

Empowering Health, Transforming Lives.

The African American Diabetes Association is dedicated to dismantling health inequities through culturally grounded education, advocacy, and community support.

Our Mission for Health Equity

The African American Diabetes Association (AADA) is dedicated to dismantling the systemic health disparities that disproportionately affect Black communities. Through culturally-grounded education, advocacy, and direct support, we empower families to take control of their health journey and rewrite the generational narrative of diabetes care.

Our Cause: Bridging the Gap in Diabetes Care

The African American community faces a disproportionate burden in the diabetes epidemic, driven by systemic inequities and a lack of culturally relevant resources. We are dedicated to providing the advocacy and tools needed to change this narrative.

  • Systemic Advocacy: Fighting for policy changes that ensure affordable care and healthy food access for all.
  • Community Empowerment: Delivering life-saving education directly to neighborhoods through trusted local voices.
Advocacy & Policy

We champion local and national policies to eliminate food deserts and ensure affordable healthcare access for underserved families.

We empower the Black community through culturally grounded education, advocacy, and direct support systems designed to dismantle health inequities.

How We Help

Culturally Relevant Education

Our 'Eating Healthy Project' honors traditional cuisines while teaching effective management through a culturally grounded lens.

Support & Empowerment

We establish peer networks and faith-based initiatives that provide emotional support and navigate clinical barriers together.

"I am deeply thankful for the establishment of the African American Diabetes Association, ADA; the moment I learned about this organization, I knew I had to dedicate my time to establishing a local chapter in my community. We will strive to provide more than just resources, we will be rebuilding the spirit of Negro Health Week, a piece of our history rooted in the power of family and collective care.

We need that sense of village now more than ever to address the challenges of diabetes and reclaim our health. "By returning to these roots of community support, we are ensuring that no one in our neighborhood has to fight this battle alone."
